Introduction | What happens to art when an entire community becomes a museum?    In this episode, we meet Thai artist collective Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture. They take us inside a pop-up museum staged across their community as part of a biennial, and an art experiment that invites people to apply to live in an apartment. These projects grew from their ongoing exploration of Thai–Myanmar relations and their efforts to connect small local communities.   Baan Noorg began with a return home. Working amid concrete buildings, everyday labor, and relationships within the community, they continue to reshape their practice in response to the people and places around them. Their work asks what art can become when it finds a place in shared life.   This season expands on the theme of MoCA TAIPEI’s 2026 exhibition Withdrawal: Our Collective Existence, exploring how contemporary artists approach collectivity as a form of knowledge production, a strategy for survival, and an aesthetic practice. The series features conversations with artist collectives, artist-run spaces, and self-organized initiatives from Taiwan and neighboring Asian countries. Through these conversations, we look at how artists activate spaces, cultivate diverse communities, and build creative practices and collective bonds—offering a glimpse into the fluid and evolving forms of collectivity in contemporary art across Taiwan and Asia.   Outline | 03:35 What brought them home 08:18 Bangkok’s art scene 09:15 Community building as an artistic method 11:03 A web of connections: How did Baan Noorg’s members meet? 17:33 Taiwan–Thailand exchange: Rural and global at the same time 22:48 Biennial I: A pop-up museum of community history 25:09 Biennial II: Thai–Myanmar relations and sharing space across divides 53:48 Biennials and triennials: Toward a healthier way of making art 58:16 How does Baan Noorg use space? 01:02:12 The benefits and drawbacks of grants—and earning their own income 01:13:48 The romance and reality of working as a collective    Host | Ileana Tu aka. Miss Bench A travel-addicted curator, grassroots art critic, and observer of daily spectacles. Focuses on art institutions that exist in a “state of exception” between museums and galleries. By day, a museum professional; by night, she transforms into “Miss Bench” to conduct writing and curatorial experiments, using exhibitions to open up spaces for social dialogue.   Guest | jiandyin jiandyin (ji b. Ratchaburi | yin b. Chiang Mai), are interdisciplinary duo artists and curators, live and work in Ratchaburi, Thailand. Their work is research-oriented, rooted in tangible and often overlooked realities–whether historical, political, social, and marginalization, body of work approaches various modes of expression and a wide range of disciplines and mediums, through collaborations and social engagement.   Krittaporn Mahaweerarat Krittaporn Mahaweerarat (b. Loei) is an art practitioner currently pursuing an MFA in Public Art and New Artistic Strategies. Her practice questions her role within the communities she inhabits, exploring the intersection of magical realism and empirical reality through narratives that connect human and non-human realms.   Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture is a non-profit, artist-run initiative, a fundamental strategy for community development and a service-provider for artistic practice. Located in the Nongpho subdistrict, Ratchaburi, it aims to find out possibilities for exchange, integration and co-existence within the community—locally and globally, and to build up community sustainability according to the group’s claim: Baan Noorg is Future is Now.   References | 1.Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts and Culture https://www.instagram.com/baannoorgcollaborative_th/ 2.我們如何一同想像共生的下個十年–Baan Noorg藝術與社區計畫|打開–當代藝術工作站|國藝會文化交流 https://archive.ncafroc.org.tw/result?id=700eeae98fc348ee93bbf3ccac523822 3.OFF LAB#1/2014: Pop Up Museum–Model study for Nongpo community https://www.baannoorg.org/dayofflab/pop-up-community-history-museum/ 4.OFF LAB#2/2016: 365 Days: LIFE MUSE https://www.baannoorg.org/dayofflab/365-days-life-muse-2/ -微型政治、微型歷史及其意識 再寫「365天:生活美術館」|鄭文琦|典藏 藝術觀點 https://artouch.com/art-views/content-834.html 5.OFF LAB#3/2018: Local Agents https://www.baannoorg.org/dayofflab/local-agents/ -在地代理Logal Agents(Nongpho社區學習計畫)|打開–當代藝術工作站|國藝會文化交流 https://archive.ncafroc.org.tw/result;jsessionid=843346F64E888605280F93B6EB26228A?id=1213d78fc5ac4aae865ba9ac553ce042 6.Baan Noorg Biennial #4 Chaõ Hāus, really?: Nongpho Community International Art Festival 2024 https://www.baannoorg.org/baan-noorg-biennial4-2023-nong-pho-the-tai-yuan-diaspora/ 7.documenta fifteen: ‘Churning Milk: the Rituals of Things’ (2022) https://www.baannoorg.org/baan-noorg-documenta-fifteen/ -【卡塞爾現場】打開—當代×Baan Noorg:台泰德共創「翻攪乳海」|國藝會線上誌 https://mag.ncafroc.org.tw/article_detail?sid=837 8.NPKD (NongpoKiDdee) https://www.baannoorg.org/npkd/   Music | Intro music: “Vibing Over Venus” Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ – FB:https://www.facebook.com/TaipeiMoCA Email:mocaresearch@mocataipei.org.tw – Sponsor: Ji Hui-Neng Art and Culture Foundation      90. OFF LAB#1/2014: Pop Up Museum–Model study for Nongpo community https://www.baannoorg.org/dayofflab/pop-up-community-history-museum/ 4.「365日-生活靈感」OFF LAB#2/2016: 365 Days: LIFE MUSE https://www.baannoorg.org/dayofflab/365-days-life-muse-2/ -微型政治、微型歷史及其意識 再寫「365天:生活美術館」|鄭文琦|典藏 藝術觀點 https://artouch.com/art-views/content-834.html 5.「在地代理」OFF LAB#3/2018: Local Agents https://www.baannoorg.org/dayofflab/local-agents/ -在地代理Logal Agents(Nongpho社區學習計畫)|打開–當代藝術工作站|國藝會文化交流 https://archive.ncafroc.org.tw/result;jsessionid=843346F64E888605280F93B6EB26228A?id=1213d78fc5ac4aae865ba9ac553ce042 6.Baan Noorg Biennial #4 Chaõ Hāus, really?: Nongpho Community International Art Festival 2024 https://www.baannoorg.org/baan-noorg-biennial4-2023-nong-pho-the-tai-yuan-diaspora/ 7.documenta fifteen: ‘Churning Milk: the Rituals of Things’ (2022) https://www.baannoorg.org/baan-noorg-documenta-fifteen/ -【卡塞爾現場】打開—當代×Baan Noorg:台泰德共創「翻攪乳海」|國藝會線上誌 https://mag.ncafroc.org.tw/article_detail?sid=837 8.NPKD (NongpoKiDdee) https://www.baannoorg.org/npkd/   【襯樂】 片頭/片尾: "Vibing Over Venus" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)  Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License  http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ - FB:https://www.facebook.com/TaipeiMoCA 聽眾信箱:mocaresearch@mocataipei.org.tw -- 贊助單位:財團法人紀慧能藝術文化基金會

Introduction | If an art space can be carried elsewhere, what exactly is being carried? In this episode, Vietnamese artist collective ba-bau AIR joins us to share how the image of a pregnant woman inspires their vision of a space full of energy and possibility. They bring this vision to life in an old French-style house in Hanoi, where living, creating, and caring for the space together blur the lines between artist and audience, host and guest—and between the physical and the intangible. 86. S12EP04|Pangrok Sulap: Collective Life, Woodcuts & Music in Sabah (ft. Adi Helmi Jaini)   Introduction | How does an art collective live and make art together? In this episode, we are joined by Adi from Pangrok Sulap—a collective rooted in the punk rock spirit and the rural communities of Sabah. He shares what it means to build a life and artistic practice together, transforming local memories and shared struggles into powerful woodcut prints. Outline | 03:48 Getting to know Pangrok Sulap 09:37 Engaging with the community 15:08 Teamwork and collaboration: listening and expressing honestly 22:27 Woodcut and collage: passing down stories beyond words 31:52 Inside Pangrok Sulap’s physical space 41:54 Running a space and unlocking new possibilities 47:01 Pangrok Sulap’s core value: mutual trust   Host | Erica Yu-Wen Huang  Erica Yu-Wen Huang holds a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from University of Leicester, United Kingdom.
