復命章第十六
致虛極，守靜篤。萬物並作，吾以觀復。夫物芸芸，各復歸其根。歸根曰靜，是謂復命。復命曰常。知常曰明。不知常，妄作凶。知常容，容乃公，公乃全，全乃天，天乃道，道乃久。沒身不殆。

第 十 六 章
致 虚 极 ， 守 静 笃。
万 物 并 作 ， 吾 以 观 复。
夫 物 芸 芸 ， 各 复 归 其 根 。
归 根 曰 静 ， 静 曰 复 命 。
复 命 曰 常 ， 知 常 曰 明 。
不 知 常 ， 妄 作 凶 。
知 常 容 ， 容 乃 公 ，公 乃 全 ， 全 乃 天 ，天 乃 道 ， 道 乃 久 ， 没 身 不 殆 。

Zhì xū jí, shǒu jìng dǔ. Wànwù bìng zuò, wú yǐ guān fù. Fū wù yúnyún, gè fùguī qí gēn. Guīgēn yuē jìng, shì wèi fùmìng. Fùmìng yuē cháng. Zhī cháng yuē míng. Bùzhī cháng, wàng zuò xiōng. Zhī cháng róng, róng nǎigōng, gōngnǎi quán, quán nǎi tiān, tiānnǎi dào, dào nǎi jiǔ. Méi shēn bù dài.
16. Decay and Renewal
Empty the self completely;
Embrace perfect peace.
The world will rise and move;
Watch it return to rest.
All the flourishing things
Will return to their source.

This return is peaceful;
It is the flow of nature,
An eternal decay and renewal.
Accepting this brings enlightenment,
Ignoring this brings misery.

Who accepts nature's flow becomes all-cherishing;
Being all-cherishing he becomes impartial;
Being impartial he becomes magnanimous;
Being magnanimous he becomes natural;
Being natural he becomes one with the Way;
Being one with the Way he becomes immortal:
Though his body will decay, the Way will not.

内心虚化到极点，持守安静到纯一。我就能在万物的篷蓬勃勃中，看出其来龙去脉。
万物纷纭百态，都复归其本根。回到本根就叫平静安息。平静安息便是复归了真生命。复归了真生命便是永恒。认识永恒便是光明。不认识永恒，就会任意妄为，后果凶险。
认识了永恒，就能万事包容。万事包容，就能公义坦荡。公义坦荡，则为完全人。完全人，则与天同。与天同，就归入道了。归入道，可就长久了，即使肉身消失，依然平安无恙。

內心虛化到極點，持守安靜到純一。我就能在萬物的篷蓬勃勃中，看出其來龍去脈。
萬物紛紜百態，都復歸其本根。回到本根就叫平靜安息。平靜安息便是復歸了真生命。復歸了真生命便是永恆。認識永恆便是光明。不認識永恆，就會任意妄為，後果兇險。
認識了永恆，就能萬事包容。萬事包容，就能公義坦蕩。公義坦蕩，則為完全人。完全人，則與天同。與天同，就歸入道了。歸入道，可就長久了，即使肉身消失，依然平安無恙。
