The exhibition To Martian Anthropologists invokes the imaginary future scenes from In the Name of Art by the Belgic art critic, Thierry de Duve, and invites the artists to leave, both in cyberspace and in the physical venue, all kinds of clues for the martian anthropologists who might land on Earth someday to launch a field research on the human civilizations. For the artists, web pages will be the specific site where the artworks actually take place, and the physical venue serves as an extended interface and an index of deployment echoing remotely the online artworks.

https://martian.beauxarts.tw/artwork/wang_yahui_draw_a_circleYa-Hui WANGEngaged in video, installation, photography and painting, the artist raisesquestions from the overlap of reality and imagery about virtual/real,interior/exterior, essence of imagery and viewing experience. The subject in herwork concerns the nature in Oriental philosophy and the relationship betweenhuman beings and the world. From contemporary experiences of living, she isgenuinely interested in the possibilities to incorporate the Oriental thinkinginto modern life.Draw a Circle2020|Interactive and responsive web pageUsers of Draw a Circle must follow the circle on the screen to find the sensorzone. Therefore, during the time when they keep in touch with the interface, theeyes and hands must also respond coordinately to the circle. Once the sensorzone is triggered, an one-minute long video will be played. During theconception, the artist often feels like looking for bright stars in the immenseuniverse. Although the spacecraft must be piloted by human beings, it has tofollow at the same time the rules of the universe in order to travel safely.Only when human beings cooperate with the universe, the voyage in search ofstars is able to embark.https://martian.beauxarts.tw/artwork/wang_yahui_draw_a_circlePowered by Firstory Hosting

星叢 ▸ https://martian.beauxarts.tw/artwork/hsieh_yucheng_star_cluster藍幕 ▸ https://martian.beauxarts.tw/artwork/hsieh_yucheng_blue_screenYu-Cheng HSIEHSpecialized in mixed media and spatial installations, the artist often createsskillfully on-site optical illusions to explore the floating subjectivity amongimage, machine and illusional phenomena, in the hope to reflect upon bycorrespondence the relationship between empirical world and existential state ofhuman beings.Star Cluster / Blue Screen2020|Interactive and responsive web pageThe sun goes down and all sorts of shimmering lights linger at night. Thebustling highway traffic and bright, deep street light, seen from far, haveturned into dispersed dim lights and a star cluster, both of which constitutethe modern urban life. The flow of time is cut into static frames of fragmentedimages, which are played in sequence to create a visual illusion of reality.Nowadays, a great amount of images of super verisimilitude, through all sorts ofinterfaces, have invaded us. At the moment when everyone is forced to regain thelife of solitude, all left in front of us are the glowing screens and images. Inthe beginning, it might start from a collision of sparkles from which lightstretches out by spots as a line expanding into a surface, by which time andcivilization are thus constituted.Star Cluster ▸ https://martian.beauxarts.tw/artwork/hsieh_yucheng_star_clusterBlue Screen ▸ https://martian.beauxarts.tw/artwork/hsieh_yucheng_blue_screenPowered by Firstory Hosting

https://martian.beauxarts.tw/artwork/james_minghsueh_lee_distant_hollowJames Ming-Hsueh LEEHis work often spotlights on the objects found in all sorts of stores. With apenetrating sense of humor, he reexamines and challenges the conventionalunderstanding of ‘things’ indoctrinated by the media, education and society.Through reversing the concept of objects--correct usage, appearance or humanperception, the artist is able to offer refreshing and amusing interpretationsso as to explore other possibilities of contemporary art.Distant Hollow2020|Interactive and responsive web pageAs always, people are inclined to believe what the “presentation” brings about, whether by visual effects, as the saying goes — “Pictures don't lie,” or byrecorded evidence of any physical form: each bears an ideology derived from “Tosee is to believe.” The “presentation” with a meticulous logic of science hasinvaded most people's lives, and yet, in contrast to the “presentation,” the“absence” connected to invisible emotions or fleeting descriptions beyond wordsbecomes a distant hollow hard to glance over. It is frightening that the hollowis not non-existential, but people chose to ignore it deliberately.https://martian.beauxarts.tw/artwork/james_minghsueh_lee_distant_hollowPowered by Firstory Hosting

https://martian.beauxarts.tw/artwork/niu_junqiang_self_portraitJun-Qiang NIUThe artist focuses on video, film and mixed media installations which departsfrom the idea of “seeing as a form of existence” to elaborate the nature ofobjects.
During the creative conception, the artist endeavors to investigate theinvisible relations between materiality and spirituality to foreground theindividual, even collective life consciousness. He has worked with differentsorts of participants to narrate their pasts to create a more united experience.Self Portrait2020|Interactive and responsive web pageThe artist has worked as a volunteer at the Institute for the Blind of Taiwanfor more than a year, during which he contacted 12 persons of complete visualloss. After getting along with them for a while, the artist asked them, “What doyou think of my appearance?” They described the artist's appearance with“non-visual” experiences such as sound, smell, and movement. Then, he translatedinto the tactile writing system (Braille) the description, typed on a piece ofcowhide equal to a person's height. The embossed transcription is similar torashes growing out of skin as well as to dateless ancient scroll maps. Theartwork serves as a dialectics of visible and invisible, and as a reflection inpursuit of the external form of visual art. The visually abled have no access tothe artist's appearance by Braille, but the visually disabled who have learnedBraille can “see” by the embossed code a more profound essence from theappearance.https://martian.beauxarts.tw/artwork/niu_junqiang_self_portraitPowered by Firstory Hosting
