其安易持，其未兆易謀，其脆易 泮，其微易散。為之於未有，治之於未亂。合抱之木，生於毫末；九層之臺，起於累土；千里之行，始於足下。為者敗之，執者失之。是以聖人無為故無敗，無執故無失。民之從事，常於幾成而敗之。慎終如始，則無敗事。是以聖人欲不欲，不貴難得之貨；學不學，復眾人之所過。以輔萬物之自然，而不敢為。
第 六 十 四 章
其 安 易 持 ， 其 未 兆 易 谋 。其 脆 易 泮 ， 其 微 易 散 。为 之 于 未 有 ， 治 之 于 未 乱 。
合 抱 之 木 ， 生 于 毫 末 ﹔九 层 之 台 ， 起 于 累 土 ﹔千 里 之 行 ， 始 于 足 下。
民 之 从 事 ， 常 于 几 成 而 败 之 。慎 终 如 始 ， 则 无 败 事 。
Dì liùshísì zhāng
qí ānyì chí, qí wèi zhào yì móu. Qí cuì yì pàn, qí wēi yì sàn. Wéi zhī yú wèi yǒu, zhìzhī yú wèi luàn. Hébào zhī mù, shēng yú háomò﹔jiǔ céng zhī tái, qǐ yú lèi tǔ﹔qiānlǐ zhī xíng, shǐ yú zúxià. Mín zhī cóngshì, cháng yú jǐ chéng ér bài zhī. Shèn zhōng rú shǐ, zé wú bài shì.

64a. Care at the Beginning
What lies still is easy to grasp;
What lies far off is easy to anticipate;
What is brittle is easy to shatter;
What is small is easy to disperse.
Yet a tree broader than a man can embrace is born of a tiny shoot;
A dam greater than a river can overflow starts with a clod of earth;
A journey of a thousand miles begins at the spot under one's feet.
Therefore deal with things before they happen;
Create order before there is confusion.
64b. Care at the End
He who acts, spoils;
He who grasps, loses.
People often fail on the verge of success;
Take care at the end as at the beginning,
So that you may avoid failure.
The sage desires no-desire,
Values no-value,
Learns no-learning,
And returns to the places that people have forgotten;
He would help all people to become natural,
But then he would not be natural.
事情在安全的時候很容易控制, 事情還沒在出現之前就阻止它。東西在脆弱的時候就把它打碎, 事物在細微的時候就把它驅散。問題在出現之前就把它們解決。叛亂在開始之前就阻止它們。一棵像人的懷抱那麼大的樹是從一棵小嫩芽長出來的。一個完成了九成的平台是從一堆土開始的。一棵百丈高的樹是從根紮下的。干涉某樣東西就是破壞它。堅持某樣東西就是失去它。因此,聖人不干涉任何東西,就不會破壞任何東西。不堅持什麼東西,就不會失去什麼東西。在處理事務時,人們常常在快要成功的時候失敗。如果你在最後和開始時一樣謹慎, 就不會失敗。因此,聖人渴望無欲無求, 也不看重珍稀物品。他學會不學, 彌補別人的錯誤。他讓萬物成為自己,卻不敢干涉。
