不處章第二十四
企者不立，跨者不行。自見者不明，自是者不彰，自伐者無功，自矜者不長。其於道也，曰﹕餘食 贅行。物或惡之，故有道者不處。

第 二 十 四 章
企 者 不 立 ﹔ 跨 者 不 行 ﹔
自 见 者 不 明 ﹔ 自 是 者 不 彰 ﹔
自 伐 者 无 功 ﹔ 自 矜 者 不 长 。
其 在 道 也 ， 曰 ： 余 食 赘 形 。
物 或 恶 之 ， 故 有 道 者 不 处 。

Dì èrshísì zhāng
qǐ zhě bú lì﹔ kuà zhě bùxíng﹔ zì jiàn zhě bùmíng﹔ zì shì zhě bù zhāng﹔ zì fá zhě wú gōng﹔ zì jīn zhě bù zhǎng. Qí zài dào yě, yuē: Yú shí zhuì xíng. Wù huò è zhī, gù yǒu dào zhě bù chù.
24. Indulgence
Straighten yourself and you will not stand steady;
Display yourself and you will not be clearly seen;
Justify yourself and you will not be respected;
Promote yourself and you will not be believed;
Pride yourself and you will not endure.

These behaviours are wasteful, indulgent,
And so they attract disfavour;
Harmony avoids them.

翘着脚就站立不住，蹦着高就走不成路。自以为能看见的是瞎子，自以为聪明的是傻子。自我夸耀的徒劳无功，自高自大的不能为首。
从道的眼光来看，这些东西像多余的饭，累赘的事，只会让人厌恶。有道的人不会这样的。
